John Thomas, CFA

Vice Chair

John is a Partner and a member of the Relationship Management Team. His primary responsibility is developing and strengthening major client relationships in Asia and the U.S. He also contributes to Martingale’s strategic planning for business development and is a member of the Research Group. Prior to joining Martingale in 2010, John had a 34-year career at J.P. Morgan Investment Management, including eight years on the executive committee, five years as president of J.P. Morgan Trust Bank (Japan) and ten years as head of its institutional marketing group. Previously, John was an independent consultant to investment management firms, including Martingale, and he also co-founded a hedge fund that invests in small cap Japanese companies.

John holds a B.A. in economics from Ohio Wesleyan University and an M.B.A. with distinction in finance from the Wharton School. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society San Francisco. John served for nine years on the Board of Trustees of Ohio Wesleyan University, and continues as a member of the University’s endowment investment committee. He is also a board member of the Japan Society of Northern California.
